UK Sikh Man Brutally Killed in India

Sukhjeet Singh Sonu,of Derby, UKDERBY, UK—A 34 year old Sikh man from Derby, UK, has been ruthlessly murdered in the Indian state of Uttar Pardesh on September 1st, as he visited his family home there with his wife and children.

Sukhjeet Singh, otherwise known as Sonu, was hit over the head with a hammer, before having his throat slit with a blade. All the while, other members of the household were reportedly drugged into unconsciousness while the horrific crime was committed.

As yet, the circumstances surrounding the case are still being investigated by the Indian police, but wife of Sukhjeet Singh, Ramandeep Mann, is being accused by the police as being complicit in carrying out the murder with another man, Gurpreet ‘Mitthu’. Her family are claiming that she is being framed by the police there, who’s superior officer there has close family ties with the Sukhpreet Singh’s wider family.

Sukhjeet Singh’s two children, aged 6 and 9, were asleep at the home in the village of Shahjahanpur at the time of the killing, and are currently being watched over by their grandparents.

Sukhjeet Singh moved to Derby with his family just three years ago, as he began to adopt a more devout way of life. He played a leading role in the building projects at Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Derby, where his weekends and evenings were spent leading a team of volunteers in seva (selfless service), revamping the National Sikh Heritage Centre & Holocaust Museum and surrounding buildings within the complex. He was due to be honored by the congregation of the Gurdwara Sahib, for his contributions to the seva, as soon as he returned from his India trip. Instead, however, the Sikh community in Derby have been sent into a state of shock as news of the murder surfaced.

There are strong suggestions that disputes over land and property are motive for the murder. The family of Ramandeep Mann are shortly due to release a statement to refute allegations of an affair and adultery, made by the Indian police. She currently remains in custody by UP Police.

Sikh leaders in Derby have been mounting pressure on authorities both here and in India to expedite their investigation and warning them not to fall prey to wild accusations by the locals there, before conducting their own thorough investigation.

  1. the wife has admitted her involvement and why is her family not doing anything to get her released. it has also come to knowledge that her parents were still in India when the found out about this tragedy. Why did they not turn back to find out what happened to their son in law. Any normal sikh person would have done the correct moral and responsible thing.
Did they know or expect something tragic was going to happen
