BRADFORD, UK—A callous attack has taken place on Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji last Friday night, as it was thrown over a set of locked gates to Guru Gobind Singh Gurdwara Sahib, on Leeds Road, in Bradford, UK.
Blurred CCTV from the Gurdwara Sahib has recorded that on the night of the 12th an individual appeared out of an Enterprise hire van and walked up to the locked Gurdwara gates, before throwing Guru Ji’s saroop over and then running back into the van driving away.
The impact, as well as the overnight rain, has caused extensive damage to the saroop. The incident was not realized until late midday Saturday, when a local sangat member discovered the saroop. The police, however, did not attend until this morning, Monday 15th.
Endeavors are underway for various UK Sikh bodies to contact West Yorkshire Police to express dismay at their response priority on the matter. Individuals locally and nationally are also being encouraged to do the same. The Sikh Council UK is understood to begin stepping up efforts as this hate crime appears to be receiving a lack of focus from the authorities.
After repeated deliberate attacks on Guru Sahib in India in recent years, an attack on Guru Granth Sahib ji took place in California only last week. And now, a first for the UK, a malicious individual has now committed a similar attack in the northern city of Bradford.
Bradford is known to be the centre for the UK version of the RSS, a Hindu extremist faction that leads overt and covert attacks on Sikh sentiments in India. It’s possible they may be attempting to provoke Sikhs further afield, to cause unrest.
The problem with our Panth is that we do not address root causes of any of our problems.
The two biggest internal problems that are stopping our Panth from being one and growing are:
1. Too many Gurdvarae – there need only be one or two per city. Imagine all the Sangat coming together, we wouldn’t be faced with the problem we are now where halls are empty during the week, the overheads of operating them are causing debt. Imagine the resources we could put in place if all those donations were put together and the impact we could have on our youth.
2. Saroops of our beloved Guru Maharaaj are too easily available, which means any TomDickHarry who wants to open a new Gurdvara because he has too much ego to work with his fellow bretheren, can go and buy a saroop and open a Gurdvara.
There needs to be a worldwide stop to printing saroops – until then:
– the next generation are less likely to do mehnat to memorise Gurbani by heart
– Sangat will not come together as there are too many factions caused by the simple access to purchase saroops and then go on to…..
– ……opening new Gurdvarae around the corner from where there are already 5 others
Sangat Ji, if we can’t overcome our differences and do seva/simran together operating from only one or two Gurdvarae per city, how will we ever come together to tackle all of the other problems?!
Who is monitoring all of this? Why is it being allowed? Why can’t we rise above our individual greed and ego and try to work with each other?
The only way is if Akaal Takhat Sahib takes control of the situation and sets a worldwide rule that there should only be 1 Gurdvara per x miles radius. When this happens, it will solve many of our internal problems; Sangat will have no option but to work together; this will mean increased Sangat numbers at the Gurdvara equating to more opportunities for seva/simran together and greater impact of parchaar. It will also force the closure of all of these dera-type Gurdvaras who are causing so many factions and the destruction of our Panthic ekta – their sole aim should be parchaar which can happen at the only Gurdvara in x miles radius. Someone needs to research into “how the (ridiculous) number of Gurdvara Sahibs in a small radius is impacting on the Sikh panth”

Don’t provoke us and we won’t be provoked. There is no such thing as EMPIRE it is just delusion to try and excuse you from moral responsibility. The Sikhs already have been practising peace, harmony and love for their neighbour for hundreds of years. It is the doctrinal DNA of the Sikh religion (Guru Tegh Bahadur gave his life for the faith of the Kashmiri Pandit, the Khalsa risked their lives to rescue kidnapped Hindu girls from the Afghan invader, the langar in every Gurdwara is open to every visitor without favour or discrimination etc) – can you say the same of your Hinduvta ideology? NO. Sit and eat alongside the Dalit before you hypocritically preach to the Sikh about common decency, humanity and citizenship.
Beadbi is what happens in India. When they destroy baba jis ang. This lady did not come with a bad intention. If she wanted to do baba jis beadbi she could have taken them anywhere. She came with the right intentions but did not know this isn’t the right way to bring them. She knew she had to bring baba ji to the gurdwara which was right. She done the right thing of bringing them to the gurdwara. But you can’t punish her or anything!
She came with the right intentions she just didn’t know how to deal with it!
It happens when it is in the interests of people to create disharmony. Think about it!
Why don’t they just trace the enterprise van to whoever rented it.
Why blame Hindus. It is obvious who really wants to disturb the Punjab and India. If a particular community was not known for its destructive nature then we could rule it out but it is not. It wants communal disharmony. Where most Hindus do revere Guruji another group just see Sikhs and Hindus as Infidels and will do whatever it takes to divide and destroy. There is bad in every community but some just disregard us and want distruption despite the selfish support they give for Sikh issues hoping that communities abroad start to fight. This plays into their hands on many fronts and in the eyes of the host nations tars us with the same brush so as to cause wider divisions and allows them to spread hate and try and create their Caliphate. Let us be wary.
It is interesting that you take glee if not outright relief that the RSS were not responsible for this sacrilege and indeed defend them yet are quite happy to insinuate the culprits must have been Muslims (although you fail to have the courage to name them openly). Where is your apology to Muslims now? And don’t dare to presume that the Sikhs would hold hands with the fascist RSS whose agenda is as totalitarian as the fanatical Jihadi – we oppose both of you because you wish to discriminate and persecute as a matter of perverted purist ideology. The Sikhs stand with those who want humanity, equality and justice for all not just a select few.

The RSS is present in the UK and you know it. You think its Chief Mohan Bhagwat went there for a 2 day holiday? He went there to rally his troops in a secretive getogether. Desecretion of the Guru granth sahib ji is a major issue, which badal can not control.By making it a world issue , it deflects some of the blame
No body can harm Gurbani, Gurbani is all praise of God & how to be one with God. These people are harming them selves, these people misguided their own brothers & sisters to worship murti & animal not the almighty God, how they can know the importance of Gurbani? We will never harm any religious holy book, by worshing stones & animal their heart became like those.

It is you who is living in a parallel universe (and we all know who fond you are of science fiction and fantasy) if you try to argue the RSS are not present and active in the UK. Just as the terrorist IRA had its sympathisers in the US (notably cities with high Irish emigre populations like New York and Boston) which raised funds and political support / cover the RSS similarly has its supporters in the the UK. Why do you think Narendra Modi organised his triumph of the will rally in Wembley and just a few weeks ago RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat flew into England for another rally – both of which were opposed by Sikhs trying to highlight the fascist proclivity and activities of the RSS. In the run up to Modi’s electoral win there was even an RSS stall at the Nagar Kirtan in Southall where RSS activists sought to rally electoral support for the BJP with NRI and by extension their extended families back in India. The RSS tries to keep a low profile in the UK because it it does not wish to bring scrutiny to its nefarious activities and bigoted beliefs amongst the western population who would ridicule and condemn its dark ages totalitarian philosophy.
