SANGRUR, Punjab—Naresh Yadav today joined investigations regarding sacrilege of Holy Scripture of Quran in Malerkotla that took place on June 24. Naresh Yadav is Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Mehrauli (South Delhi).
On June 24, a volume of the Quran was set ablaze in Malerkotla. So far, the police have arrested three culprits involved in committing sacrilege. One of the key culprits, Vijay Kumar had named AAP MLA Naresh Yadav as the mastermind of sacrilege. Vijay Kumar had stated that Naresh Kumar wanted to disturb communal harmony across the state in wake of upcoming assembly polls of 2017 as he was the co-incharge of Punjab Aam Aadmi Party party affairs wing.
Earlier today, as per orders of the CIA, MLA Naresh Yadav presented himself before the Patiala police at 11am. He was accompanied by several AAP leaders, including Sanjay Singh and Himmat Singh Shergill. Yadav told the media that he will fully cooperate with the police as he was nothing to hide. He said he was being framed in the case.
Sanjay Singh said that this was a plot by the Akali Dal in Punjab who were trying to malign the image of the Aam Aadmi Party. “They will do anything to stop us from winning 2017 elections,” Sanjay Singh said. Earlier, AAP state convener Arvind Kejriwal had blamed the Akalis for the sacrilegious incident. In a press statement, Arvind Kejriwal said that the Akali Dal led Punjab government has stooped to its lowest to defame AAP. He added that the AAP MLA was being framed by Punjab police to tarnish image of AAP in wake of upcoming assembly polls of 2017.
Interacting with the media, SSP Prithpal Singh (Sangrur) informed that Yadav was asked to appear because of his calls with the co-accused Vijay Kumar.
