LUDHIANA, Punjab—At the order of the Punjab government, the DMCH (Dayanand Medical College & Hospital) authorities started force feeding Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa yesterday on April 5.  However, early in the morning around 2 AM, Bapu Surat Singh removed the feed pipes in absence of hospital staff.

Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa told Sikh24 that he does not wish to be force fed.  He stated that he is being kept at the hospital forcibly, against his wishes.  A petition is already pending in the Punjab & Haryana High Court, which was filed last month by Bapu Surat Singh, asking the court to allow him to be discharged from the hospital.

Bapu Surat Singh was without food, and only drank water, for almost one month when he removed the food pipes 25 days ago.  Over the course of the past 25 days, his health has deteriorated.

Bapu Surat Singh Ji Khalsa has been on hunger strike since January 16, 2015 seeking the release of Sikh politicial prisoners.  In this 447 day long struggle, Bapu Ji has been force fed several times at various hospitals near Ludhiana.  At one time, pipes were stiched to his forehead to keep him from removing them.  Bapu Surat Singh is on a fast until death to seek the release of political prisoners who have completed their terms but have not been released by the government.

  1. These butchers will be punished by the Almight Waheguru. Why do not they leave Bapu Ji in peace or better still release the prisoners than Bapu Ji will at peace.
