Sikhs Stand In Solidarity With People And Government Of Belgium

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—On behalf of Sikh people in Punjab, Dal Khalsa, has expressed solidarity with the people and government of Belgium, who suffered a terror attack on Tuesday, March 22.

In an e-mail message to a senior diplomat at the New Delhi based Embassy of Belgium, the organization, “condemned the heinous terror act, in which innocent lives were lost in Brussels.” They offered their condolences to the families of the victims.

The party’s secretary for political affairs, Kanwar Pal Singh, wrote, “Those who have masterminded the bomb blasts at Brussels airport and city metro station were enemies of humanity and should be punished in a strictest possible way.” 

United Sikhs, an international Sikh advocacy group also condemned the terror attacks.  Amarjit Kaur, president of the United Sikhs Belgium chapter said,”It seems like the city is on curfew, many trains cancelled and fear in the air. Everyone is instructed to stay inside the house. Attacks like these instigate hate against minority communities. It’s time to share love and compassion towards one another”.

A press release by the United Sikhs stated, “Unfortunately, such attacks redirects backlash towards minority communities, and we urge the Sikh community to exercise extra caution and be mindful about their surroundings.”  “We stand in solidarity with one another and will work towards ending hate and discrimination”, said Jatinder Singh, Director for United Sikhs Aid.
