Amritdhari student arrested during Khalsa Sports Tournament in Fatehgarh Sahib

Gurpiar Singh at the time of his arrest

FATEHGARH SAHIB—The district police of Sri Fatehgarh Sahib arrested an Amritdhari Sikh student on March 8 during the inaugural ceremony of the annual “Khalsa Sports” tournament.  The arrest took place in relation to a dispute over the leading the opening ceremony of the 12th annual Khalsa Sports being held from March 8 to 10th.  Gurpiar Singh, the arrested youth is a student of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.

The dispute took place when the University staff had placed apostate (non-amritdhari) students in the front line of procession march being carried out to inaugurate the tournament.  While the tournament takes place under the banner of “Khalsa Sports”, the University staff this year sidelined the amritdhari youth by instead having students without dastars lead the ceremonies.

Gurpiar Singh, who is pursuing B. Tech at the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur College of Engineering and Technology, had opposed the move of placing non-amritdhari students in front line of procession.

Gurpiar Singh was indicted under sections 107/151 of Cr.P.C (Code of Criminal Procedure) but later released the same night.

Talking with Sikh24’s correspondent, Prof. Mohinderpal Singh, General Secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) condemned the incident.  “Nothing could be worse than organizers of Khalsa Sports lodging complaints against their own amritdhari students,” he told Sikh24.

Gurpiar Singh was in the limelight during the “Lakhnaur Sahib” morcha when Bhai Gurbaksh Singh commenced his second hunger protest.  He also went on a brief period of hunger strike at the Jantar Mantar after the police detained Bhai Gurbaksh Singh.

    • Anywhere so long as it’s not actually in the Sikh homeland of Punjab, eh ‘Harinder’? You’d probably want to bar the most famous Indian Olympian Mikkha Singh from attending if he insisted on turning up wearing that pesky turban and beard too that so irks you.

  1. Harinder you are so disgusting – you have sunk so low that you do not even give recognition to other faiths – it is now clear as crystal that you a chamcha of the RSS. Khalsa will live and will rule …… you people with lift their dhoti’s and run to one of your god or godesses out the38 million or how many ever you have – YOU TALK ABOUT JUSTICE… WHAT JUSTICE – just arrest the sikhs in dastars…
Commend you M Singh veer ji …chardi kala always…….

    • There you are again using language like ‘talibanise’ to describe Sikhs wearing their dastaars and the symbols of their baptism into the faith. You absolutely hate the Sikhs and their obvious distinct identity given to them by Guru Gobind Singh himself and will not be happy until the Khalsa is destroyed. Never mind olympics we know your nefarious game.

    • You are embarrassing me as a Punjabi Hindu with your brazen anti-Sikh bias. When you talk of Olympics are you even aware that the greatest Indian Olympian (and by greatest I mean in the same way Muhammed Ali is the Greatest in that he too transcended just his sport to become international icon) was the ‘Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh who proudly represented this state and country in his turban and beard? No doubt you must have been very indignant that his award winning biopic film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag depicted him in his uncut hair and turban. People like you with your extremist Hinduvta prejudices are the ones causing damage to the bond between Punjabi Hindus and their Sikh brothers. Rather than trying to destroy Sikhi why don’t you concentrate on focusing on the ills of our own religion particularly the institutionalised – both by Hindu religion and by Hindu politicians – caste discrimination that damages the interests of the Hindu? I don’t think you are a Punjabi Hindu as otherwise you would know how we look on our Sikhs as older brothers to be respected and appreciated rather than naughty school children that needs to be humiliated and scolded by the headmaster before the whole class. If not for the Khalsa fighting in their turbans and beards against the forebears of the ‘talaban’ there would be no Hindus now in Punjab or Kashmir. I apologise on your behalf to the Sikhs on this website for your misguided and offensive views against their religion.

      • I know it is difficult to tolerate the anti Sikh falsehoods RSS Harinder continuously peddles on this site but we do also get to hear the truth of his views (and by extension those which are held by his Hinduvta compatriots) and also the sneaky methods that are being used to undermine Sikhi religiously and historically. For example looking back at his posts over the past few months we have learned from ‘Harinder’
        1) He will not post under his real name but will use a Sikh sounding non de plume in order to ingratiate himself and pass off his views as being those of a Sikh with a different but because he is posing as a Sikh (although cannot name the Gurus let alone their Gurmat) equally ‘valid’ assessment of Sikh values, theology and history.
        2) He does not believe that Sikhs should wear their dastaars and have uncut hair as those are readily identifiable visual aspects of the Sikh silhouette which he wishes to eliminate from public life.
        3) He thinks Sikh role models should include porn stars like Sunny Leone and mass murderers like KPS Gill.
        4) He says he believes in democracy but what he really means he believes in it if it guarantees and legitimises the people he wants in power which tend to be the Badals even though it is has been pointed out to him that the Badal clan have engaged in undemocratic practices such as monopolising public services and hotels through patronage of their official positions. He also calls Badal King of Punjab and urges ‘him to do whatever he likes’ – both contrary to democratic principle.
        5) He does not want Sikhs to have justice for the genocidal pogroms carried out against them in 1984 but rather wants them to just accept it (and even throws in notions that we deserved it because of his bogeyman Bhindranwale) and move on through ‘resurrection’ which effectively means emigration to other parts of the world. He has callously called a Karol Bagh survivor who rebuked him on this as just being someone suffering from ‘post- traumatic stress’.
        6) He does not believe in the spiritual authority of the Panj Pyare or even in the need for Khalsa baptism. He thinks anybody can call themselves Khalsa (no need to be baptised or bear the five kakkars in his estimation) and any institution can call itself Khalsa regardless of whether it practises Sikh principles.
        7) He does not believe in Sri Guru Hargobind’s principle of Miri Piri and thinks that can just be dispensed with because ‘we are moving with the times’. What he really means is that principle of tying the spiritual to the temporal world is very awkward for him and his kind who wish religion to be nothing more than a pick and mix pot pouri that will give a veneer of religiosity and respectability whilst he indulges in his vices
        8) He says Guru Granth Sahib Ji is just a holy book with about as much spiritual authority as the Ramayana (which he thinks is a real historical event) and therefore sacrilege of the saroops is really no big deal and Sikhs should not get ‘provoked / worked up’ by such sacrileges.
9)He thinks Punjab should continue to give most of its river water away to non-riparian states then seeing that there is a universal convention against such a policy argues that Punjab should be conjoined with Haryana, Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh into a so-called Greater Punjab (even the name he is not sure about though) where there is no need for Sikhs to rule over either their state or religious internal affairs or cling to Punjabi language and by extension the Gurmukhi in which the Bani of Guru Granth Sahib is written.
        10) He believes the State both Punjab and Central have the right – contrary to the Indian constitution – to interfere and legislate in internal Sikh religious affairs so in his conjoined super state we could have the BJP in charge of Darbar Sahib and the Akal Takht!
        11) He thinks Sikhs should just submit to law no matter if the law is unjust and leads to them being arrested, tortured, imprisoned or killed. He refuses to explain how India came into being without the breaking of such legal jurisprudence under Moghul and British rule which was legitimately accepted
        12) He thinks extra judicial kidnapping, rape, torture and murder of Sikhs in the past is acceptable because it ‘brought peace to the Punjab’ (his words).
        13) He believes that Punjab Police Officers who have committed such extra judicial abuses and atrocities should not be charged but rather just write their version of events in books and make videos to put on Youtube. Sikhs however in his estimation who wear turbans and beards are extremists and should be treated as criminals regardless of whether there is any evidence against them and should be locked up in prison. Making a speech at the Sarbat Khalsa for him is an act of sedition and chasing Sikhs in Portugal granted political asylum for fear of being tortured is more worthwhile than arresting police officers who shoot dead Sikhs protesting beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib in their own homeland.
        14) He rejects and rewrites Sikh history regularly refusing to accept that Sikhs were raising their grievances immediately upon the formation of India in 1947 culminating in the Anandpur Sahib resolutions and then the organised murder of Sikhs in 1978 in Amritsar.
        15) He refuses to accept that Indians have committed abuses and atrocities against Sikhs except as mere helpless pawns directed by existential foreign Empires and refuses to accept Indians have formulated draconian and illegal laws of their own (TADA et al) to repress their own population. This means he gives a clean chit to any Indian who commits abuses and atrocities against Sikhs particularly if they were in uniform such Gurmeet Pinky.
        16) He loves space travel, time travel and urges Sikhs to just forget about all the abuses, indignities and atrocities committed against them and think about emigrating from India. Not sure when he tells us all to go into space to create Punjab out there whether he means without the necessary life support as I suspect if you were wearing a turban and beard he’d cut the oxygen and rations.
        17) He is a supporter of the RSS even though that is a terrorist orqanisation and is involved in violence towards other religious minorities (burning Churches, instigating a ghar wapsi programme to force Dalits to return to Hindu fold from Christianity etc).
Did I miss any out ‘Harinder’? Look at that I am actually defending your right to speak your horrible sectarian and antithetical mind whereas you would have me locked up if not tortured to death for speaking mine.

      • We must not allow Religious Extremists to take over any state in the world .
They are all capable of causing lot of Violence .
Religion should be in the Private sphere of individuals.
I will never allow Punjab to turn into the

        Bhindranwale -Indira Punjab .

Punjab is the Land of Ram , Arjun ,Nanak , Pirs and Saints.

      • Listen to you pretending to be a Babbar Shere! LOL! You don’t have the necessary genes as your forefathers couldn’t even defend themselves against the Moghul and had to wait for the Khalsa to turn up so you could practice your Hindu faith out in the open instead of hiding in a cave. ‘Ram’ didn’t come to save you did he? Because he’s a fictional character like Sherlock Holmes. And now you think you can defeat Khalsa?! LOL! Sikh religious faith is not just about selfish personal salvation (as you put it in your previous posting – ‘God helps them who help themselves’) which can be achieved leading an aesthetic monastic life standing on one leg in a cave leaving others to suffer outside whilst you expect them to come and feed you from their day’s labour. Sikh religion demands and expects of its adherents that they fully engage with the world and stand up against injustice not just against the Sikh but any innocent person (which is why we saved your forefathers) no matter the personal cost to one’s own life. That is Miri Piri and Khalsa which you hate so much because it means Sikhs will not stand by and allow you to torment the Muslim or the Christian or the Dalit or anyone for that matter that you consider to be the ‘other’, the ‘inferior’, ‘anti-national’. You are the religious extremist and you openly support RSS, a terrorist organisation which has fascist violent policies towards other peoples and you WILL be opposed by the Singhs – the real Lions of Punjab.

      • 1) He will not post : It is my real name .

        5) He does not want Sikhs to have justice for the genocidal pogroms carried out against them in 1984 :—I at least have some answer like CPR (Chadi Kala .Phoenix and Resurrections ) and annual appeal of Justice in all courts of the world . Karol Bagh survivor who rebuked him on this as just being someone suffering from ‘post- traumatic stress’: He needs to cheer him self up and not stay in a despair the spirit of Chadi Kala must prevail.
        6) He does not believe in the spiritual authority of the Panj Pyare or even in the need for Khalsa baptism. : –Never said it ,it is against your figment of imagination and paranoia.

get ‘provoked / worked up’ by such sacrileges.: –This is a trap to launch a GENOCIDE -4 by provocation
9)He thinks Punjab should continue to give most of its river water away to non-riparian states ; –I never said give it away but said sit down and find a amicable solution to it .For which reunification is one of the answer .
        10) He believes the State both Punjab and Central have the right – contrary to the Indian constitution – to interfere and legislate in internal Sikh religious :–Laws can always be changed by law makers to meet the aspiration of people
        11) He thinks Sikhs should just submit to law no matter if the law is unjust and leads to them being arrested, tortured, imprisoned or killed. He refuses to explain how India came into being without the breaking of such legal jurisprudence under Moghul and British rule which was legitimately accepted ; -Wrong I have rather said that we need to relook at the British imperial laws which we have inherited form British Empire
        12) He thinks extra judicial kidnapping, rape, torture and murder of Sikhs in the past is acceptable because it ‘brought peace to the Punjab’ (his words): –Killing by all is wrong be it the militants or the State.
        13) He believes that Punjab Police Officers who have committed such extra judicial abuses and atrocities should not be charged but rather just write their version of events in books and make videos to put on Youtube. : –The Govt is not going to give u justice for all of it .Book and you tube will at least Keep it alive

        16) He loves space travel, time travel ;— It is where our future homes and Punjab will lie.

        17) He is a supporter of the RSS ;–RSS needs to defend its turf in peaceful manner .

whereas you would have me locked up if not tortured to death for speaking mine. :;—Please free to speak your mind with our spewing venom on RSS or any other organizations.

      • Oh dear, let’s have a look at your ‘defence’.
        1) ‘Harinder’ is not your real name but you have used it to pass yourself off as a Sikh for nefarious reasons in the same way some young Muslim men in the UK have worn the Kara in order to target and groom Sikh girls they meet in Nagar Kirtans.
        2) You have repeatedly expressed clear anti Sikh sentiments continually using loaded language against Sikhs who have the ‘temerity’ to be baptised in their faith so wear their hair uncut and with dastaars. You say such people are Taliban and terrorists and that you will not allow Punjab to go to them and that butchers KPS Gill and Brar will be raised like spectres to deal with them. You are only trying to deny it now because I have highlighted it and it injures your ability to continue soft peddling such aspersions in future.
        3) You still hold up Sunny Leone – a PORN STAR! – and KPS GILL – the noted butcher of Sikh youth – as being role model Sikhs?!! To be a Sikh you have to ACT like one as well as LOOK like one. Don’t you understand that simple point? Sticking a turban on your head (like the Badals) or simply being born into a Sikh family does NOT make you a Sikh.
        4) ‘If you win the Punjab elections then you will also be called the king of Punjab’. Out of the mouths of babes. You can’t be a King if it is a democracy, the two are incompatible! Neither can you say with an electoral mandate the government is then entitled to do whatever it wishes – which you have said – as that leads to tyranny. Hitler became Fuhrer claiming democratic legitimacy at the same time as he was busy dismantling it. You have also claimed that elected government officials are entitled to have monopolies, patronage and enrich themselves (and others can do so as well if they ‘win’ office) in a manner of a fox being given the key to a hen house – that is entirely against the point of democracy which is for public representation and public good.
        5) What is your answer to genocide against Sikhs? CPR which means ‘Sikhs take it on the chin and don’t get so upset about what happened’, Phoenix – same kind of indifference of just miraculously rising from the flames and Resurrection which means mass emigration from Punjab and India and for Sikhs to live in other countries where they can resettled like refugees. Oh, yes you want us to have an annual appeal for justice in courts other than Indian ones. That makes sense, why bother the Indians and upset them by constantly reminding them of this thorn in the flesh of their conscience, eh? As for your response to the Karol Bagh survivor – ‘he needs to cheer himself up’ – you now add insult to injury. Is that what you say to the Indian women raped and gang raped in India everyday too? You are disgusting and depraved.
        6) You do NOT believe in the spiritual authority of the Panj Pyare or the need for Khalsa baptism. Your repeated sentiments and allusions speak volumes about your agenda for trying to repudiate both of these as you recognise both of these are the moral conscience keepers of Sikhi.
        7) Ditto with Miri Piri. You say religion is something to be done only at home and not in the public sphere as that is the backbone of ethical Sikh behaviour (tell that to your ‘Sikh’ heroes Sunny Leone and KPS Gill). You don’t want Sikhs using Sikh religious principles to engage in politics which is entirely contrary to our Gurus teaching to us.
        8) The Bible , BhagwatGeeta ,Ramayana, Quran may be considered holy books to the adherents of those respective faiths but Sikhism does NOT regard them as holy books within Sikhi let alone incorporates their tenets which often run contrary to Sikh teaching. Sri Guru Granth Sahib is NOT just a holy book of scripture to the Sikhs but our LIVING, ETERNAL GURU. Again you can’t seem to grasp this so when beadbi is done we are seeing not just sacrileged pages of scripture being torn and burnt and strewn in the street but the very flesh of our Guru being defiled. We cannot be told and expected to just chill out when this is done.
9)Sit down and find amicable solution to water being stolen from Punjab? Haryana gets more of Punjab’s water than the Punjab does even though it has less land and even less of this land is riparian. It’s not rocket science. As for ‘reunification’ you don’t want Sikhs to rule the ‘reunified’ state but rather see it as a clever technicality to continue diverting water to Haryana and HM by saying they are now part of greater Punjab and of course the Sikhs would then also become an electoral minority in their own homeland. The Punjabi Hindus made their bed in 1966 when they turned their backs on their Punjab brothers and language, let them lay it now. We will share what water we as Punjab decide we can spare not by diktat from non-Punjabis people who do not have Punjab’s interests at heart. Instead of wasting money on space programme put those crore upon crore building a pipeline from the sea and desalinating the water. Modi can do it through Gujrat and claim in some Wembley Stadium rockstar presentation he is bringing jobs to his own state.
        10) ‘He believes the State both Punjab and Central have the right – contrary to the Indian constitution – to interfere and legislate in internal Sikh religious:–Laws can always be changed by law makers to meet the aspiration of people’ What? You still think the Governments have a right to interfere in Sikh religions internal affairs?! Absolutely non-negotiable! The next thing you will suggesting is putting in puja worship and stone idols of Hindu Gods into Darbar Sahib ‘to meet the aspirations of the people’ and for promoting good relations. Have you not learned a single thing by the Badals using their political governance patronage to lean on the SGPC to give pardon to heretic Ram Rahim for his votebank? We as Sikhs will NOT tolerate government interference or legislation in Sikhi’s internal affairs – that’s what the Akal Takht, Panj Pyare and worldwide Sikh Panth through its Sarbat Khalsa are for. Non Sikhs do NOT get to vote in Sikh religions affairs anymore than Pakistanis get a say in who sits in the Lok Sabha.
        11) You continue to blame any Indian atrocities and abuses both legally and extra judicially on ghost laws inherited from colonial times to divert and distract culpability. I say again a drunkard cannot reform himself until he is prepared to accept and admit that he is an alcoholic and if he continues to blame the barman for selling him drink rather than hold himself responsible for his own actions he will never stop being a drunkard.
        12) and 13) For you a Sikh wearing a turban and keeping his beard is automatically a ‘militant’ and thus deserving of extra judicial kidnapping, torture, rape and murder. Look at your response to Bhai Parmajit Singh in Portugal. You have again and again referred to him as being a criminal who has somehow escaped the law of India when it is clear that the evidence the Indian authorities presented to the Portuguese authorities was so poor it could not be accepted for extradition purposes. You do not believe in the fundamental concept that a man is to be considered innocent until he can be proven guilty when that applies to Sikhs. That double standard also extends to your notion of punishment, Sikhs can be arrested for sedition for cutting down a tree and languish in prison but police officers and politicians who have committed atrocities can enjoy their liberty whilst writing books and making videos for youtube. And you have stated again and again if the Sikhs that you hate do stand as dissidents they will be met with the full violent force of the State and you heartily approve and consider such illegal and immoral brutality totally justified.
        14) and 15) ‘The Govt is not going to give u justice for all (atrocities committed against the Sikhs) of it .Book and you tube will at least Keep it alive. What do you think Sikhs are and have been doing for the past thirty years with their constant demonstrations, books, videos and court cases? The Govt might not give it but they can be publicly shamed by our demanding justice. As for ‘someone should write down all the Grievance’s from state Capital, Punjabi Speaking areas to the Genocide’ – really? You haven’t read any of the material – THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF WRITTEN TESTIMONY – collated by NGOs, Human Rights Organisations and tireless advocates like Phoolka Singh? How many books do you need to beat on your head exactly for the overwhelming weight of evidence to get through your thick skull?
        16) Forget about spending billions of crore on space travel to boost prestige and spend that money on building desalination plants and pipes from the sea to water Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan so Punjab can use her own water for her own fields so her people have a future.
        17) You don’t deny at least being a supporter of the RSS which is a terrorist organisation and by your own admission one which is involved in violence as you have stated ‘it now needs to defend its turf in peaceful manner’. Its ‘turf’ does not include the Punjab, homeland of the Sikhs nor does it include a masjid or a church or a Dalit’s conscience – all of which Sikhs will stand up to defend. Come to think of it the RSS nationalism would be best utilised in building those desalination and water pipes from the sea to Haryana – they already have the fetching khaki shorts for the seaside and a need for gainful employment otherwise the devil finds work for idle hands and weak minds.

  2. Absolutely disgraceful and a clear demonstration of the misappropriation of the word ‘Khalsa’ for nefarious ends. How can you possibly have a ‘Khalsa Sports Festival’ without the Khalsa front and centre?! Then again we have had a republic day military parade with no Sikh regiments on display either despite the fact they are the most decorated and valorous. Clear attempt to denigrate any outward identity of a Sikh and a wake up call for us all when the Punjab Government won’t even defend the most visible sign of being a Sikh when the French President comes a calling.
