High Court Summons Administration of Amritsar Regarding Illegal Construction Around Darbar Sahib

Harmandar Sahib ComplexCHANDIGARH, Punjab—Acting upon a petition filed by Human Rights activist Sarabjit Singh Verka about the illegal erection of buildings around Sri Harmandir Sahib, the Punjab & Haryana High Court has summoned the District administration and the Municipal Corporation of Amritsar. The Administration and Municipal Corporation would have to appear before the court on March 2.

Confirming the development, petitioner Sarabjit Singh Verka shared that he had earlier moved a petition about the illegal erection of buildings around Sri Harmandir Sahib Complex in 2010. “I had sought strict action against the illegal acquirers of land around Sri Harmandir Sahib in the petition and the Court had ordered the Punjab government & District administration to take action”, he added.

He further said that the Punjab government and the District administration didn’t follow the directions of the Court, following which he moved another petition in Court against the Punjab government and the District administration of Amritsar for disobeying the Court’s order. “Now taking more strict measures against the Punjab government and the District administration of Amritsar, the Court has summoned them to appear before the Court on March 2”, he said.

He announced that the Court has summoned Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, Administrator of PUDA Sri Sandeep Rishi, Commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal of Municipal Corporation and the Chief town planner Hemant Gupta.
