KHADOOR SAHIB, Punjab—Ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) candidate Ravinder Brahmpura today filed his nomination papers for Khadoor Sahib bypoll slated for February 13. He was accompanied by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal and various other top leaders including cabinet minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Bikram Singh Majithia, his father Ranjit Singh Brahmpura (Akali MP) and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

Promoting the nepotism, the SAD (B) made Ravinder’s wife Ravinder Kaur as covering candidate.  Speaking on terms of anonymity, a senior Akali leader from Khadoor Sahib told Sikh24 that at one time, any candidate from the party was not allowed to be covering candidate. It was the party leadership which used to select the covering candidate from the party rank and file.  “Negative trends have occupied center space in the SAD,” he added.

As per the affidavit attached by Ravinder and his wife along with their nomination papers, they own movable property worth Rs. 7 crore and have immovable assets worth Rs. 5 crore. Thus they own total Rs. 12 crore (roughly equaling USD 1.7M).

Prior to this, addressing the gathering of party rank and file, top leaders of the SAD termed Sikki’s resignation as mere “drama to become hero and glorify himself as well as his party.”

During the gathering, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema told the workers that Sukhbir was attending the event to address them and appealed them not leave the venue without listening the Sukhbir’s speech. The workers got disappointed when Sukhbir ran away immediately after the SAD candidate filed his nomination paper. He did not address them workers, nor did he interact with media persons.

Rest of the nominations on Jan 27

Only one day has left for the nominations i.e. January 27. Rest of the candidates including Congress’ Ramanjit Sikki and two independent candidates Bhai Baldeep Singh and Dr. Sumel Singh Sidhu are likely to file their nomination papers on January 27.

It is worth mentioning that the seat had fallen vacant after Congress leader Ramanjit Singh Sikki resigned from the post of MLA to protest against sacrilege incidents held in Tarn Taran village.

  1. This Ravinder ‘Brahmpura’ either has the startling decency unlike his Akali BaDal sponsors to openly declare his allegiance to the Hinduvta cause or his Hinduvta masters are enjoying an in-joke and bet over a chota peg of whiskey with the Badals as they divvy out the proceeds of drug trafficking money in Punjab dancing the night away at rapper and gypsy king Ram Rahim’s dera. The contemptuous in-joke and wager in question? Whether the Sikh electorate is blind-sided enough not to notice that this so-called Sikh (who openly maligns even the memory of his fallen Sikh kinsmen) bears the very name ‘Brahmpura’ which sounds awfully conveniently close to ‘Brahmin Pura’ – Brahmin total or Brahmin full – and actually vote for him in the manner of ‘turkeys voting for Christmas’!
