:dateline:Despite being announced as Congress candidate for high stakes Khadoor Sahib by-poll, Ramanjit Singh Sikki still continues to do seva (selfless service) at Darbar Sahib. Sikki hadresigned from the post of MLA as a protest against sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib. He has told the Congress leadershipthat he could not leave the premises till culmination of his annual seva on January 31.
His willingness to stay at Darbar Sahib and not to break his routine has put both the party and state election commission in a bind as only one day (Jan 27) isleft for filling of nomination papers for the election. As per the rules of the election commission, Sikki cannotfile the nomination paperwork through his representatives either.
I was deeply anguished by the sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib and I did not ask the party before resigning as MLA. The state government has done nothing to address the problem. Neither the culprits were arrested nor was anybody held responsible for the death of two protesters in police firing at Behbal Kalan in Faridkot, he told the Hindustan Times.
If there is no provision of sending ones representative to file nomination, Guru Sahib will show the way if He has decided something for me.”
On the other hand, all the top leaders of the SAD (B) have camped in the segment and they are campaigning for Ravinder Brahmpura to ensure his victory.
It is notable that Sikki first time contested the election in the 2012 state polls and defeated Akali Dal (Badal) leader Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, whose son Ravinder Brahmpura has been fielded as SAD (B) candidate for the bypoll.
Lots of respect to Bhai Ramanjit Singh Sikki!
M Singh you never know Waheguru may do kirpa and RSS Harinder may mend his ways…….
Well said!!!
Maybe I was wrong about this Sikki character and his conscience has been genuinely pricked. If stays to finish his seva and misses the nomination date I will gladly apologise for misjudging him. Are you listening RSS Harinder – there is still time for you to mend your ways also!
