Delhi: Protesters Demobilized from Jantar Mantar, Not Allowed to Protest Against Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Delhi President of Naya Daur Party, S. Charanjeet Singh.

NEW DELHI—Protesters who had been campaigning against Gurmeet Ram Rahim were yesterday demobilized from their protesting venue at the Jantar-Mantar by the Delhi police.  These protesters had camped at the Jantar Mantar since 10 days in protest against Gurmeet Ram Rahim, and lack of action by the Government in cases registered against him.

Speaking with Sikh24, one of the protesters named Brijesh Bhatt said that the Delhi police misbehaved with the protesters and forcibly removed their tents from the Jantar Mantar.

Bhatt, who represents the media call of the Naya Daur party from Delhi informed that the Delhi police assaulted their basic right of protesting.  He added that they were peacefully protesting against Gurmeet Ram Rahim but the Police misbehaved with them.

On being contacted by media correspondents, a senior police official of the Delhi Police informed that the Intelligence tipped off to them that the protesters were going to burn effigy of Gurmeet Ram Rahim. He added that the protestors were demobilized from there in wake of Republic Day celebrations in the Capital city on January 26.

It is worth mentioning here that the arrest of an actor by Police for mimicking Gurmeet Ram Rahim had sparked a worldwide debate over double standards of Indian authorities.  Protesters had been demanding registration of case against Gurmeet Ram Rahim for wearing attire similar to that of Guru Gobind Singh Ji but no action has yet been taken by the authorities.

  1. I am beginning to suspect that that this Rahim cartoon character has more than just a bulging vote bank that is attracting the slavish patronage of politicians like flies to excrement and that he may be involved in drug trafficking and serious criminal activities which would compromise those same politicians.
