CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Although not in his jurisdiction, the Punjab Deputy Chief Minister is currently dealing with a file relating to extradition of Bhai Paramjit Singh Pamma from Portugal.  In the coming days, if the file is approved by Sukhbir, Punjab will give a written assurance to the Portugal government that Bhai Pamma will not be awarded death penalty.  Maximum sentence that can be given to Bhai Pamma will be 25 years or less.

Pamma has already suffered immensely, his siblings were killed in Punjab and rest of the family has gone through much harassment and torture.  His parents have appealed to the Portugal Government asking it not to extradite their son, citing eminent threat to his life.

Similar to the case of Paramjit Singh Pamma, when Prof. Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar was extradited from Germany to India, the Indian Government awarded him death penalty, after providing him an unfair trail under the TADA law.  Supporters of Pamma feel that his fate might be the same, if he is sent back to India.  Prof. Bhullar is still languishing in jail in Punjab.

  1. Absolutely disgusting injustice – badal government is there any point in you calling yourselves sikhs or anything else even human beings!! So long as the maximum punishment is given to the sikhs its fine!

All our best wishes with Bhai Paramjit Singh and his family.

  2. Is there no depth of depravity and injustice the Badals and their ‘Government’ won’t plumb? They don’t have the evidence to extradict this man so they try to bribe the Portuguese by saying ‘look, it’s okay, we won’t hang him so just hand him over and we will only give a life sentence. Evidence? Oh don’t worry about that, we will get some in time for his mock trial. And he can always appeal the sentence we have just told you in advance we are going to give him. Of course the appeal will take quite a lot of time to work through and we are going to deny it anyway. But don’t worry if any elderly Sikh tries to embarrass us by going on hunger strike for his release long after his sentence has expired we will wait until the last moment to release him by which time he will have been tortured enough to become mad. And then the example will be set for all the other Sikhs who wish to dissent’.
