CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Putting an end to rumors, journalist Kanwar Sandhu yesterday uploaded a video elaborating on the details of the incident occurred in Patiala jail while visiting Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana.
Refuting allegations of illegally attending Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana in Patiala jail, Kanwar Sandhu has stated that he visited Bhai Rajoana as per jail rules and even his finger prints were recorded in the jail’s daily register.
Sandhu says he was called to Patiala jail by death row convict Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana via his foster sister Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur. Bhai Rajoana had objected to the allegations leveled by Gurmeet Pinky in his interview conducted by Kanwar Sandhu. He had called Kanwar Sandhu to record his version of the incident but the situation escalated, leading to Rajoana physically beating the journalist.
Parkash Badal has instructed the Additional Home Secretary Jagpal Singh to thoroughly probe the incident and submit its report to government within a short time.
DIG (Prison) Sri L.S Jakhar has stated in a press talk that he too investigated the incident, on the basis of which Assistant Superintendent of Patiala Jail Jagmel Singh and Attendant Mani Singh was suspended by ADGP (Prison) Sri R.P Meena.
The Punjab government has reportedly taken very seriously the fact that the CCTV footage of Kanwar’s visit to the jail was leaked.
Badal’s party stated that Kanwar Sandhu is close to Congress party state head Captain Amarinder Singh, and therefore claiming Congress’ hand behind this entire incident.
