AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—In a press conference held at Amritsar Sahib on December 14, SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar announced to step up security in all Gurdwaras to control desecration incidents. Avtar Makkar said that the SGPC will install CCTV cameras in all Gurdwaras, whether these are managed by SGPC or local management committees. Makkar added that they have received numerous applications from local committees of Gurdwaras to assist them in installation of CCTV cameras.

Makkar also claimed that SGPC was in touch with an Australia based software developer who will assist them in using latest techniques to keep track of the Holy Scriptures placed anywhere in the world. ‘A special surveillance would also be kept on houses where Holy Scriptures of Sri Guru Granth Sahib have been placed’ he added.

Makkar announced that the SGPC is to be active in restoring ancient looks of historical buildings and preserve their identity with the utmost care. He said that under this campaign, the Haveli of Diwan Todar Mall, Kachi Garhi of Chamkaur Sahib and five forts of Sri Anandpur Sahib have been given ancient looks by SGPC. He also added that efforts to digitally preserve literature of Sikh reference library are ongoing.

  1. This man was found ‘guilty of undermining and misusing the Sikh institutions’. Who will own the CCTV footage and what procedures will be used, if any, for granting access to it?
