AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Fearing the growing wrath among the Sikhs, the appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh failed to show up at the 31st martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh. The anniversary was observed at Gurdwara Jhanda Bunga near Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
During the program, homage was paid to the sacrifices made by Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh to restore Sikh pride. Sri Darbar Sahib Ragi Jathas recited Gurbani Kirtan following the conclusion of Sri Akhand Path Sahib.
Family members of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh were honoured on this occasion. A consequent Sri Akhand Path Sahib was also initiated for paying tribute to the victims of Sikh Genocide in Delhi.
Sikh24 has learned from internal sources that the appointed Jathedar was asked by the SGPC President Avtar Makkar to attend the shaheedi samagam, however despite being available on the day, Giani Gurbachan Singh failed to show up gearing protests from the Sikh Sangat. Earlier, during a program, he had to face wrath of the Darbar Sahib Ragi Jatha and Akal Takht Sahib Dhadhis when he went to attend a program at the Manji Sahib Diwan Hall.
