Makkar Insults Institution of ‘Panj Pyare’ says Sant Samaj

Sikhkaum-panj-piareyCHANDIGARH, Punjab—As many as 20 members of Sant Samaj, a body of heads of Sikh sects, on Monday said that the SPGC president Avtar Makkar had gravely insulted the institution of ‘Panj Pyaras’ (five beloved ones of Guru) who held supreme authority Sikh religion, by suspending and reinstating them.

They wanted Makkar to apologize to Panj Pyaras by appearing himself before them. They termed the words used by the SGPC chief about ‘Panj Pyare’ as totally unfair and a violation of Sikh principles.

The religious personalities who criticized Makkar included Baba Sewa Singh Rampur khera, Baba Hari Singh Randhawa and Baba Lakhbir Singh Ratwara.

They also lashed out at him for not allowing noted Sikh preacher Giani Pinderpal Singh to address Sikh Sangat at Manji Sahib Diwan Hall of Sri Darbar Sahib.

It is worth mentioning that Makkar had suspended ‘Panj Pyaras’ of Akal Takht Sahib for passing a ‘Gurmata’ (consensus) against controversial Jathedars of Sikh Takhts. With mounting pressure Sikhs across the board, he had to reinstate them.
