Akali Dal (Badal) Set To Contest Uttar Pradesh Elections on Its Own

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has announced to contest upcoming assembly elections of 2017 from 35 seats of Uttar Pradesh. Party President Sukhbir Badal has appointed Balwant S Ramuwalia, Prem S Chandumajra and Gulzar Singh Ranike as observers to dig into the possibilities.

It is notable that assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in 2017. Akali Dal is exploring the chances of success in seats where Punjabi population is abundant.

Akali dal (Badal) is trying to take local Punjabi farmers of Uttar Pradesh into confidence promising them of various benefits post elections.

In Uttar Pradesh, Sikh communities are mostly concentrated in the Nalital, Pilibhit, Rampur, Lakhimpur, Shahjahanpur, Bijnor, Saharanpur and Dehra Dun districts of the Terai region.  The Terai region was, at the time, home to approximately 300,000 Sikh farmers.
