Akali Dal 1920 To Challenge Appointment of Chief Secretary in Court

Amritsar, Punjab—Akali Dal 1920 is to challenge the SGPC’s decision of appointing Chief secretary via the Courts. It is notable that despite strong opposition, executive committee of SGPC was resolute in inventing a new post of Chief Secretary and appointed Harcharan Singh to this Post.

Opposing the appointment of Chief Secretary in SGPC, Akali Dal 1920’s activists Raviinder Singh (President) and Raghbir Singh Rajasansi (Vice President) said that they are taking legal advice on this issue and the appointment of Chief Secretary will be challenged in the apex court soon. They said that their party had already sent a legal notice to SGPC in this regard, but the executive committee didn’t deter in appointing the position.

Terming the new appointment as an extra financial burden on SGPC, the Akali Dal advised that the President, Prime Minister, Home Minister and Chief Minister were already apprised of the issue via written letter and that the Home Ministry had also asked the SGPC for clarification.

They said that the executive committee of SGPC doesn’t possess the right to invent new posts. According to Sikh Gurdwara Act, management rules could be altered only in General house, the existence of which is under consideration in Supreme Court of India.
