:datelin:In reply to a complaint lodged in the Office of the Union Home Minister by the SAD (1920) President Ravi Inder Singh about the extra-constitutional appointment of Chief Secretary, the SGPC has clarified the matter.

SGPC President Avtar Makkar

Sikh24 has learned that the SGPC submitted a reply on July 15.  SGPC President has stated that though no such provision of appointing Chief Secretary exists in Sikh Gurdwara Act of 1925, but the act facilitates the right to executive committee to invent new posts according to needs by passing resolutions.  Makkar stated that they had only given advertisement in newspaper and yet had not appointed anyone as Chief Secretary.

It is notable that the advertisement for the appointment of Chief Secretary in newspapers had ignited controversy over the issue. Opposition of Akali Dal (Badal) labelled it as an illegal act. President of Shiromani Akali Dal (1920) S. Ravi Inder Singh lodged a complaint against the SGPC with the Office of the Union Home Minister of India for violating the terms of Sikh Gurdwara Act of 1925. The Union Home Ministry had sought reply on the matter from the SGPC.
