Makkar: SGPC Has Already Asked Badal Govt to Pass Resolution of Anand Marriage in Assembly

Makkar at PatialaPATIALA, Punjab—On being questioned about non-implementation of Anand Marriage Act in Punjab, a Sikh majority state, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar said that the SGPC had already asked Badal led Punjab government in written so many times to pass resolution in state assembly for enactment of Anand Marriage Act. Still, he said, the body would again remind the government in this regard.

Makkar was talking to media persons at Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib here. He said that they would again write to chief minister Parkash “Singh” Badal to pass the resolution in forthcoming session and ask him to issue notification to concerned departments to register Sikh marriages under Anand Marriage Act instead Hindu marriage Act.

On the other hand, All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) president Bhai Karnail Singh Peermohammad termed the non-implementation of the Act as grave negligence of Sikh leadership. He said the Haryana government had implemented the Act two year ago and other states also showed good response but Punjab’s Badal government had put it under consideration which proved that it was not serious toward Panthik issues.
