:dateline:An elderly Sikh farmer from Fatehgarh Sahib earlier today. �S. Surjit Singh, aged 60, was under distress from crop loss due to unseasonable rains.
Just in April, S. Surjit Singh had briefed the Rahul Gandhi, the Congress vice-president, about the situation faced by farmers in Punjab. �Rahul Gandhi had assured the elderly Surjit Singh that he would attempt�to help the farmers.
Similar to Rajiv Gandhi’s statement, the Punjab Government has promised help, however not much as been done so far. �The Centre too had announced compensation, however�farmers in Punjab are yet to receive any funds.
