June ’84 Ghallughara: Shaheedi Samagam Begins at Damdami Taksal Mehta

Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa BhindranwalaAMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—In remembrance to 31st anniversary of June 1984 Ghullughara (Sikh genocide), Shaheedi Samagam on Monday began at Gurdwara Gurdarshan Parkash Damdami Taksal Mehta to commemorate martyrdoms of Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, Bhai Amrik Singh, Baba Thahra, general Subeg Singh and many others.

On the occasion, Sri Darbar Sahib’s hazuri ragi Bhai Harjot Singh Zakhmi sang Gurbani Kirtan. Afterward, Damdami Taksal Mehta head Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa addressed the Sangat and made them aware about different aspects of life of Sant Jarnail Singh. He told that till June 5, Diwan (religious congregation) would be held from 4 pm to 7 pm on daily basis. During Diwan, Hazuri Ragis of Sri Darbar Sahib and Katha on Sikh history would also be done by preachers.

He told that with the help of UK Sangat, free eye camp is being organized in nearby Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Khalsa.

It is worth mentioning that anniversary of of the Ghallughara would be observed at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 6 by Khalsa Panth. Besides, at different other places across the world, the martyrs of the Ghallughara will be remembered and paid tribute.

It may be recalled that in first week of June in 1984, Indian Army went for deadly attack on Sri Darbar Sahib, the supreme Sikh shrines. Fighting against the army, thousands Sikhs attained martyrdom. The attack created permanent rift between Sikhs and India.
