Modi to be Chief Guest in Celebrations of 350th foundation day of Anandpur Sahib on June 19

Badal and Modi newCHANDIGARH, Punjab—Shiromani Akali Dal patron and Punjab Chief minister Parkash Badal has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the celebrations to commemorate the 350th foundation day of Anandpur Sahib on June 19.  Modi has reportedly accepted the invitation.

Modi will participate the mega event as chief guest and other BJP leaders and union ministers like Arun Jaitley are likely to attend along with him.

Badal met Modi yesterday and reportedly took up several issues with him. It has also been claimed that Badal took up issue of release of Sikh political prisoners too. He also met union Home affairs minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and extended invitation to them as well. Both assured Badal of their participation in the function.

The invitation to Modi raised eye-brows of majority of Sikhs as Modi is controversial prime minster who is named in case of 2002 anti-Muslim massacre in Gujarat. He represents anti-minority fascist political party which is spreading cultural genocide in Indian peninsula and destroying identity of various ethnic groups residing here.

During the meeting, Badal reportedly urged Modi for his intervention for restoration of the practice of appointment of president of Takht Shri Hazoor Sahib through election as had been enjoined by the Nanded Sikh Gurdwara Sachkhnad Shri Hazoor Abchalnagar Sahib Act, 1956. The Act mandated the constitution of the board to manage the affairs of the Takht in Maharashtra.
