AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Led by former Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Parmjit Sarna, the ‘kar sewa’ of the historic Sikh shrine Gurdwara Dehra Sahib (Lahore, Pakistan) will begin on the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev on June 16.

In a statement issued here, Sarna said a large segment of the Gurdwara would be reconstructed under the ‘kar sewa’. However, he said they would maintain originality of the place where Guru Arjan Dev Jee attained martyrdom.

He further said that in the surrounding area of Gurdwara premises, a big hall will be constructed by Sikh Sangat. “Another hall will be built in the basement,” he added.

It is worth mentioning that incumbent office bearers of the DSGPC sought ‘Kar Sewa’ of the Gurdwara but Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) did not fulfill their will as they are observing martyrdom day of Guru Sahib on May 22 following amended version of Nanakshahi Calendar which is similar to Bikrami Calendar. Thus, the PSGPC handed over the Kar Sewa work to Sarna led Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi).
