SANGRUR, Punjab—Martyrdom of Shaheed Bhai Kamaljit Singh who was martyred while protesting against followers of Sirsa based ‘Sacha Sauda’ cult, will be observed on May 18 by Sikh Sangat and ‘Shaheed Bhai Kamaljit Singh Sewa Society Sangrur’ at Gurdwara Nanakeana Sahib here.
Akhand Path Sahib will start on May 16 and its Bhog ceremony will be held on May 18. Later, a religious function will be organized which will be attended by Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo appointed Jathedar Giani Gurmukh Singh, SGPC member Bhai Nirmal Singh Gharachon and other Sikh personalities. Sri Darbar Sahib’s Hazuri Ragi Bhai Ravinder Singh will perfrom Gurbani Kirtan.
It is worth mentioning that on May 17, 2007, when Sikh Sangat of Sunam and Sangrur was returning from Damdama Sahib after attending the meeting held by Takht Jathedars, several ‘Sacha Sauda’ cultists challenged them at Mor Mandi. The Sikh Sangat was under the mandate of Akal Takht Sahib to maintain peace, thus the calls of the cultists were ignored.
The main motive of the protest was to acquire an apology from the cult head Gurmeet Ram Rahim. As a response, the cultists started firing gunshots at the Sikh Sangat. As a consequence of the shooting, Bhai Kamaljeet Singh passed away at spot after being hit in the chest.
