KARTARPUR SAHIB, Punjab—Yesterday, a protest was staged by Sikh activists led by Baba Ajit Singh Damdami Taksal, against the illegitimate arrests of three youth. They were protesting an act of disrespect to a portrait of Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale by the police.
It is worth mentioning that on day of Vaisakhi, a policeman tore portrait of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale here hurting religious sentiments of Sikhs. The situation turned tense when Sikh bodies blocked Jalandhar-Amritsar Highway demanding rigid action against the accused for hurting Sikh sentiments. The stir lasted till midnight that day. The stir was lifted by the Sikhs after having assurance from the Police that necessary action would be taken against the culprit.
Later, the Police registered case against 150 unidentified persons for traffic jam on highway under different sections secretly. In this connection, the Police arrested Tajinder Singh, Navjot Singh and Ranjit Singh who are being alleged to be innocent. Staging a protest outside the Police station, Sikhs demanded the youth be released with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, after arresting the youth, they were presented in the court from back door of the police station.
Talking to media persons, Baba Ajit Singh said, “if the Police want to arrest or book anyone, it should do so against me not against innocent youth with younger age. We will take further action for which Police would be responsible.”
