CHANDIGARH, Punjab—A letter has surfaced online which exposes the Punjab Government for playing with Sikh sentiments.  The letter was written in response to a request by Baljinder Kotbhara (a Punjab based journalist) to seek information on Parkash Badal’s request to the Home Minister’s office in relation to the release of Sikh prisoners.  Response to Kotbhara states that the Home Minister’s office never received any correspondence from the Punjab Chief Minister regarding the release of Sikh prisoners.

The official response from the Ministry of Home Affairs states –

“It is stated that as per the records of the nodal points where letters are received in respect of this Ministry, the above referred letter was not received in their office.  Therefore, it would not be possible for this ministry to furnish any information with reference to your application.”

It should be noted that in December of last year, Sukhbir Badal (Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab) had assured the Sikhs that he had written to Rajnath Singh asking for the release of 13 Sikh prisoners.  However contrary to his claims, no letter was ever written by him or the Chief Minister.

The response from the Home Minister’s office has shocked the entire Sikh Nation, which had hoped that even though the Punjab Government does not consider Panthik sentiments, they have atleast taken up the just demand of release of Sikh detainees who have completed their terms.
