Kejriwal Takes Oath as Delhi Chief Minister; No Sikh or Women in Cabinet

NEW DELHI, India—Arvind Kejriwal took oath Delhi Chief Minister earlier today.  A large gathering of his supporters was witnessed at the Ramlila ground.

A new cabinet was also finalized by political affairs committee, in which Kejriwal was given additional charge of finance and energy, whereas Manish Sisodia has been given PWD, education and Urban development. Jatinder Tomar has been given responsibility of Law, whereas Aseem Ahmed Khan has been given department of food and supply. Gopal Roy will assume charge as transport and labour minister. Sandeep Kumar has been given charge of women affairs and child welfare. Satinder Jain will be health and industry minister.

Soon after the cabinet was announced, a large number of tweets were were on the social media network, where people complained that women were not given any representation in the cabinet.  In addition, although there are four AAP MLAs in Delhi, no Sikh has been included in the cabinet of Arvind Kejriwal.

It is worth mentioning that Sikh candidates of AAP namely Jagdeep Singh (Hari Nagar), Avtar Singh (Kalkaji), Jarnail Singh Journalist (Rajauri Garden), Jarnail Singh (Tilak Nagar) have been elected as MLAs.

Aam Aadmi Party has stated that cabinet can be changed anytime as desired.  Work of MLAs in their own constituencies will be considered first before giving them a position in the cabinet.
