AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Singh Sahib Giani Gurmukh Singh will assume charge as acting Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo (Bathinda) on January 27.
Presently, Giani Gurmukh Singh is head Granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He is being given additional charge of the acting Jathedar as per a decision taken by the executive committee of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in a meeting of Jan 17 held at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.
His appointment comes after the sacking of Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh, who has displeased SGPC by publicly undermining the authority of Akal Takht Sahib.
Giani Gurmukh Singh remained a student of Damdami Taksal under the headship of Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale. He also remained a preacher at Gurdwara Alamgir Sahib (Ludhiana) and Gurdwara Pipli Sahib (Sri Amritsar).
