Sikhs Must Start to Preach the Lessons Behind the Sacrifices of Martyrs, Say Sikh Leaders

AGWAN, India—Jathedar Baldev Singh Sirsa of Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) said that a special committee should be organized to mark the martyrdom anniversaries of great martyrs of the Sikh community. He said that emerging from the formality of mere Sri Akhand Sahib for martyrs, we have to find a way to preach the lessons hidden behind the sacrifices of martyrs. S. Baldev Singh Sirsa was here in Agwan to observe the martyrdom anniversaries of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh. He said that until we start to care about the lessons of our martyrs, our efforts of observing their anniversaries will go in vain.

Bhai Baldev Singh Sirsa said that the initiative of observing the martyrdom anniversaries of Sikh Generals of 16th to 19th century is appreciable. But when we ignore the descendants of these generals who get martyred in 20th century, all our efforts are wasted. He said that initiatives should be taken to observe the martyrdom anniversaries of Shaheed Bhai Sukha Singh and Shaheed Bhai Mehtab Singh, Shaheed Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda and Shaheed Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha, Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh.

He appealed the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and SGPC President to organize a committee to mark the martyrdom anniversaries of these martyrs.
