NEW DELHI, India—S. Harwinder Singh Sarna (General Secretary, Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi)) has asked Giani Mall Singh to resign.
S. Sarna said that Jathedar Mall Singh (Jathedar, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib) has abolished the maryada of a Jathedar of Takht by meeting Home Minister Rajnath Singh in his office. He said that Giani Mall Singh abolished the traditions and principles of Sikhism, so he doesn’t deserve any right to pursue his service as a Jathedar.
S. Harwinder Singh Sarna has said in a press note that according to Sikh Rehat Maryada, the Jathedar of any of the five Takhts is considered supreme. So the Jathedar never goes to any political leader, instead he has the right to order anyone to present himself at Takht Sahib. He said that by visiting the union home minister, Jathedar has made the Sikh community ashamed.
He said that Jathedar Mall Singh was representing Sant Samaj and that Sant Samaj neither follows Rehat Maryada of Takht Sahibs nor celebrates the Gurpurabs of Guru Sahibans. He said that these cult chiefs celebrate the anniversaries of their old ones and misguide the devotees by telling them lies.
He urged the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to suspend Giani Mall Singh from his post for his mistake.
While talking about the Nanakshahi Calendar he said that defending the Nanakshahi Calendar is the responsibility of Jathedar Sahibans. Nanakshahi Calendar was prepared and presented to Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti by Pal Singh Purewal. On the order of Jathedar Vedanti, a special committee of Sikh inetellectuals edited and implemented it. This calendar remained implemented for 7 years but in 2010 this calendar was terminated on the instructions of Sukhbir Badal. He said that Giani Gurbachan Singh should now prove that he cares for Sikh traditions by giving his decision in favor of the Nanakshahi Calendar. He urged to Giani Gurbachan Singh to finish the division in the Sikh community by giving his decision in favor of Nanakshahi Calendar.
S. Harwinder Singh Sarna said that Chief Minister of Punjab S. Parkash Badal is not serious about the release of Sikh detainees and by giving the arguments of Rajeev assassination case, he is trying to get rid of this issue. He explained that the aspects of the case of Rajeev assassination are quite different from the cases of Sikh detainees. There is no resemblance between the two. He said that as the Sikh detainees have completed the punishment given by court, so they deserve the release, but Badal is trying to get rid of it. ‘S.Badal always assaults the rights of the Sikh Panth by denying his commitment. But now he would have to take a stand in favor of the Panth to terminate the hunger strike of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh’ he added.
