Cold Weather and Fog Affecting Life in Punjab

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The dense fog in Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana is affecting normal life. Visibility had been reduced to less than 50 meters in some places in the morning, and weather officials say that visibility in heavy populated place where locals drive a lot like Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Patiala have been reduced to less than 50 percent throughout the day and worse at nightfall.

Most parts of Chandigarh had very dense fog which heavily affected road and rail traffic. Weather officials said that Amritsar was the coldest place in the state with a temperature of just 3 degrees Celsius and that Chandigarh was recorded at 6 degrees Celsius, an all time low.

Weather officials also said that the maximum temperatures were keeping low, increasing the chill factor during day time. Chandigarh had recorded a maximum of 11 degrees Friday, 10 degrees below normal. Maximum temperatures in other places in Punjab and Haryana amassed between 11 and 14 degrees. Met officials said the cold wave and foggy conditions will continue for the next few days.
