Sikh Youths Acquitted in Shingar Bomb Blast Case As Police Fails to Produce Evidence

Shingar cinema hall bomb blast case acquittedLUDHIANA, Punjab—Court of additional session judge Hari Singh Grewal acquitted Bhai Gurpreet Singh Khalsa, Bhai Harminder Singh and Bhai Ravinder Singh in a case of bomb blast in Shingar Cinema on October 14, 2007. The fourth accused was Bhai Sandeep Singh alias Harry, who died in Ludhiana jail some time ago.

It is worth mentioning that in the bomb blast, 6 persons were killed and around 42 were injured. The police filed a case on statement of cinema manager Gopal Krishan in police station division no. 6 under section 302, 307 of the Indian penal code (IPC) and 3/4/5 explosive material act against unidentified persons.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that as per challan presented by the police, the four Sikhs mentioned above were charged on November 12, 2007 on the basis of police witness Jaspal Singh. Following which, Ravinder Singh, Sandeep Singh and Gurpreet Singh Khalsa were arrested whereas Harminder Singh was at large. He said the Court found no concrete evidence against trio, making their release possible.

On Tuesday evening, Bhai Gurpreet Singh and Bhai Ravinder Singh were released from maximum security jail Nabha whereas 2 more cases are pending against Bhai Harminder Singh due to which he was not released.
