AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Giving a clean chit to followers of Noormahal (Jalandhar) based anti-Sikh cult ‘Divya Jyoti Jagarti Sansthan’ (DJJS) in the case of burning holy Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib, Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the Police has claimed that the incident took place due to short circuit of power and denied any human involvement in it.
The report in this case was released by SIT on Monday evening. The report has held that Gurdwara’s Granthi Singh, his wife and kids were not present in Gurdwara and went to take meal when the incident took place. The report claims when the Granthi and his family left the premises of Gurdwara, the door of it was open and it was in same state on return of the Granthi. It held that the news about the incident was spread by neighbours.
The two-members SIT comprised Amritsar Police commissioner Jatinder Pal Singh Aulakh and SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill. The senior police officers contended that they found electricity wires attached with the Manji Sahib (sacred bed of Guru Granth Sahib) which were naked. They claimed that due to these naked wires, the short circuit took place.
On the other hand, various Sikh organizations including Damdami Taksal (Ajnala faction), Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee, Ek Noor Khalsa Fauj and Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) has totally rejected the report whereas Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has termed the report as incomplete.
Talking to media persons here today, Damdam Taksal (Ajanala) head Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee leader Bhai Balbir Singh Muchhal and Ek Noor Khalsa Fauj leader Bhai Lakhbir Singh jointly said that Panthik organizations and Sikh Sangat had gathered in Jodhpur village soon after the blasphemy was committed by the followers of DJJS.
Bhai Ajnala said that facing the anger of Sikh Sangat at that time, Tarn Taran Deputy Commissioner and SSP themselves had reached there and told the Sangat on stage that the sacrilege was not committed by single individual, but at least two or three persons were behind it.
He said at that time Police administration had sought cooperation of Sikh organizations and appealed that the peace should be maintained, accused would not be spared. The police also booked unidentified men who were later identified as Noormehal cultists. The police had also arrested some persons in the case.
The Sikh leaders said that till December 12, police kept on taking action against the followers of Noormehal cult but suddenly the matter has now shifted to short circuit. They warned that if police would release the accused on the basis of this report, unfavourable circumstances would prevail for which police and the government would be responsible.
Bhai Ajnala said that after the incident, Sikh organizations had probed into the incident on their own and at that time, no naked wires were found near the manji sahib. He revealed that on the day of the incident, power remained off for the whole day. He said it was not an accident but some persons conspired to commit sacrilege. He said the report is nothing but the clean chit given to the cultists.
Similarly, Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) leader Baldev Singh Sirsa also rejected the report saying that the government could cross all limits to support anti-Sikh cults. He demanded that appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh be clear on his stand in this case.
Later, Bhai Amrik Singh along with his aides, met Giani Gurbachan Singh and discussed other developments in this case. Giani Gurbachan Singh said the report is incomplete and he would comment in this regard only after discussing over the issue thoroughly.
