NEW YORK—On the 30th year of India-wide systematic killing of Sikhs misnomered as “anti-Sikh Pogroms”, a US based human rights group “Sikhs For Justice” will submit a report to Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General, United Nations on the 1984 genocidal violence against the Sikh community after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The report titled “1984 Sikh Genocide” will carry details of the preplanned and deliberate killings of the Sikh community in 19 states of India, eyewash investigations by the successive governments, zero convictions and the failure of the Supreme Court to take cognizance of thousands of deaths during the first week of November 1984.
On November 7th, While “1984 Sikh Genocide” report will be submitted to UN Secretary General, thousands of Sikhs from North America and European Union will be converging at United Nations Headquarters to highlight the denial of justice and continuous impunity to Indian political leaders involved in the 1984 genocidal violence.
A “Sikh Genocide” complaint urging the UN to investigate the systematic, intentional and deliberate killing of Sikhs carried out across India during the first week of November 1984 and to recognize these attacks as “Genocide” is pending before the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
On November 01, 2013, a complaint with support of more than million signatures was filed with United Nations pursuant to resolution 5/1. If the UN’s “Working Group on Communications” decides to hear the Sikh Genocide complaint, it is likely to hold hearings in 2015 August to allow the 1984 victims to present evidence related to Genocide.
Attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor to SFJ, stated “30 years of denial of justice and impunity to those who orchestrated genocidal attacks on Sikhs and after exhausting all judicial remedies in India 1984 victims have decided to go international with their quest”.
“Every arm of the Indian system failed the 1984 Sikh victims and survivors, “Police and paramilitary forces stood silent and failed to curb the deadly genocidal violence; Courts failed to arrest and convict those who were responsible for the death of thousands of innocent Sikhs and the political parties and leaders used “Issue of Justice” for the last 30 years as a tool to garner votes” added attorney Pannun.
November 2014 will be 30 years when the Congress party leaders orchestrated genocidal attacks targeting the Sikh community throughout India. The attacks on Sikh lives, properties and places of worship were carried out in a meticulous and identical manner resulting in more than 30,000 Sikhs being killed most of them burnt alive, hundreds of Sikh women being raped, Sikh Gurdwaras being burnt; Sikh properties looted and more than 300,000 Sikhs being uprooted and displaced.
The presentation of report to the UN Secretary General coincides with the day when a delegation of “All India Sikh Students Federation” (AISSF) lead by Karnail Singh Peermohammad and the victims of 1984 genocidal violence are bringing the “Torch of justice” from Delhi to United Nations Headquarters in New York.
