In the light of Akal Takht bestowing the status of martyr on Dilawar Singh on 23rd March 2012, the organization has made this demand.
Notably, Dilawar Singh blew himself up to kill former CM Beant “Singh” on 31st August 1995 within the premises of Punjab secretariat in Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, an Akand path has begun at Akal Takht today and the bhog ceremony will be held on Sunday to pay tributes to Dilawar Singh on his 19th death anniversary. The ceremony is being organized by the parents of Dilawar Singh, and pro-freedom groups will participate in it as well.
In a statement, party’s senior leader Satnam Singh Paonta Sahib and Sarbjit Singh Ghuman said the decision to accord martyr status on Dilawar Singh was historic and significant in many ways. They said in view of Bhai Dilawar Singh’s sacrifice to avenge the violations of human rights of Sikhs, his portrait should be installed along with other martyrs of the recent Sikh struggle. They took a dig at the SGPC for its meek response on most of the Panthik issues.
They came down heavily on the Punjab government for implicating and arresting Sikh preacher Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal in a old case that was closed way back. They were of the view that Badal was doing this to “satisfy their false ego and avenge their moral defeat” vis-a-vis formation of HSGMC.
