AAP MP Bhagwant Mann Criticizes Injustice Against Bhai Hawara and Other Sikh Prisoners

2014-06-20_bhagwant_mannBARNALA, Punjab—”I firmly believe that even prisoners have rights. If someone is undergoing a prison sentence, they should be given rights as per the constitution as well. The law requires that people who are ill be treated at the hospital, and in cases, given parole,” said Bhagwant Mann while speaking to a reporter during a protest organized against power cuts in Punjab.

Bhagwant Mann further stated that he feels that those prisoners who have already completed their sentences should be released. “It is sad to know that people are languishing in jails despite having completed their sentences,” said Bhagwant Mann.

Refusing to comment on the separate Gurdwara Committee in Haryana, Bhagwant Mann stated that it would be better to ask these questions to religious leaders. He however stated that while there was a need for politicians to take guidance from religion, political leaders were running religious institutes.

Bhagwant Mann was in Barnala to protest the ever increasing power cuts in Punjab. He said that it was worrying him that many places in Punjab have less than 6 hours of electricity every day. He said that during elections, politicians make various promises, however those are never fulfilled. He stated that he was going to organize similar protests in other parts of Punjab to demand proper supply of electricity throughout Punjab.
