CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today took a decision to dissolve all its overseas NRI wings with immediate effect.
This decision was taken by party president Sukhbir Badal during the course of a meeting here, party spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema disclosed.
Dr Cheema said the party had decided to send a five to six member party committee to the United States, Canada and United Kingdom soon to interact with the Punjabi community in these countries to take their views on the party’s new NRI organizational structure. He said this committee would submit its recommendations to the party president following which the new wing would be constituted.
During the course of deliberations held with the party’s Doaba leadership at the party office here today there were complaints that few people who were leading the party’s NRI wings abroad were in fact living and doing business in Punjab. Following this, the party president took a decision to have a relook at the entire NRI wings and reconstitute them as per the aspirations of the NRIs.
