Sikh Muslim Riots: Hyderabad Police Still Vigilant; Peace Prevails Amid Curfew

Hydrabad clashes 2HYDERABAD, Andhra Pradesh, India— Sikh-Muslim riots-hit areas are under control of Police. As per media reports, peace prevailed in the curfew-bound areas of Rajendranagar.  Police had imposed curfew following unfortunate clashes between Sikhs and Muslims on Wednesday over the issue of burning of Nishan Sahib (flag of Sikhs) by miscreants.  Finding the situation out of control, police opened fire against protesters. Three people were killed while five were injured in the firing.

Following the incidents, security was beefed up in the area.  Violence affected area is close to the communally sensitive area of Kishan Bagh.  Teams of Rapid Action Force, APSP and civil police maintained a strict vigil in the area.

Some members of non-government bodies spread groceries to the violence affected families in Arsh Mahal area, inhabited by the working class. Revenue officials also visited the area and spoke to the affected families.

 Police has received wrath for opening fire and killing three Muslims.
