PanjAMRITSAR SAHIB—A supreme council of Sikh leaders, the Panj Singh Sahiban, headed by Giani Gurbachan Singh, appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib met on Thursday during which they declared two committee members of a Hamilton, New Zealand based Gurdwara guilty of religious misconduct for restricting the entry of Sikh Sangat to the gurdwara.

Giani Gurbachan Singh said that they had received a complaint about the Gurdwara Committee, after which they had asked for a clarification from its members.

Other Decisions

The Singh Sahiban also cited an objection to printing “ੴ” on the slips used for the parshad sacrament.

They directed the Ravidas Community leaders to make proper arrangements as per maryada for the Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib at the Gurdwaras managed under it.

The Sikhs leaders warned people against holding religious programs at burial sites and memorials.

On the issue of a Rajasthan-based educational trust, the Jathedars said that they have resolved to give another opportunity to the trustees, who were declared thankahiya, or guilty of religious misconduct, to appear before them.

Significantly, the engineer of the original Nanakshahi Calendar, Pal Singh Purewal, met the Jathedars and discussed the controversy surrounding it.
