AMRITSAR SAHIB— A 20-member Sikh delegation, led by activist Bhai Gurbakhash Singh Khalsa, met on Friday March 14, 2014, with Giani Gurbachan Singh, the appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Bhai Gurbakhash Singh admonished the Jathedar to keep his word regarding his promised intervention on behalf of Sikh political prisoners, who have completed their jail terms, and are seeking permanent release.

Bhai Gurbaksh Singh told media persons that the delegation had urged the Jathedar to deliver on the promises made to him when  the Jethedar induced him to break the fast he had undertaken indefinitely to bring about the release of Sikh detainees. Bhai Gurbaksh Singh said, “We made him realize his responsibility to ensure permanent release of Sikh detainees.”

He said they had also told the Jathedar, that if he could not take a stand on the issue, he should facilitate their meeting with Chief Minister Parkash Badal. The Jathedar assured the delegation that he would support them, but with the understanding that the ongoing election process might affect the process.

Bhai Khalsa also said the Jathedar told them that he would try to arrange their meeting with the Chief Minister. The delegation urged him to redress the issue at the earliest so that they are not forced to resume agitation.
