Indian Censor Board Bans Punjabi Movie ’47 To 84 – Ek Peed’

47-84CHANDIGARH, Punjab—India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) which is commonly known as the Indian Censor Board (ICB) has banned a new Punjabi movie 47 to 84 – Ek Peed.  The movie is said to be based on the sorrows of people who suffered during the 1947 partition of India, and Pakistan, and the Sikh Genocide of 1984.

CBFC has reportedly refused to give clearance to this movie on the grounds that the movie could damage communal harmony, and affect social environment.

Film Producer Babli Singh announced this information during a function in which the music from the soundtrack of the movie was released. He said that he would approach the review committee against the decision of CBFC because it has illegitimately denied the clearance certificate for the movie.

Rajiv Sharma, producer of the movie, said that this is a simple movie based on true events which took place in November of 1984, that ends with a note of hope. He said that there is nothing in the movie which could  disturb communal harmony.

Previously on January 29, 2014, Raj Kakra’s debut film Kaum De Heere, based on true events related to the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was banned by the board.  The producers of Kaum De Heere have approached the review committee regarding the decision of the CBFC.
