AMRITSAR SAHIB—Giani Gurbachan Singh, appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, released the Nanakshahi Calendar of Nanakshahi Sammat 546 (2014-15) published by the Dharam Parchar Committee of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in the secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. This calendar however does not contain any further amendments as suggested by the “Sant Samaj” for the second time.
Neither the SGPC president nor any other office bearer attended the release ceremony held at the Sri Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat.
After the release, Giani Gurbachan Singh said that suggestions regarding Nanakshahi Calendar sent in by various Sikh organizations, Sects and Saints are under consideration. He said the final decision on the calendar would be made soon.
It is suspected that calendar released on Tuesday, is in effect only for the time being because only 500 copies were published and that after the Lok Sabha elections, the process of amending the calendar would begin again.
