:dateline:Sri Akal Takht Sahib, on Monday, honoured former Hazoori Ragi Sri Harmandir Sahib Bhai Gurmej Singh with �Sikh Ratan�, Historian Dr. Kirpal Singh with �Professor of Sikhism� and Late Ragi Bhai Amrik Singh Zakhmi with �Shiromani Ragi� awards.
In a simple program held at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Gurbachan Singh, appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, said, �while Akal Takht Sahib awards religious punishment to Sikh persons accused of misinterpreting Gurbani and misinforming Sikh history, it also honours the Sikh personalities for their contribution in spreading Sikhi and researching Sikh history.�
Putting light on the contributions of the trio who were honoured, Giani Gurbachan Singh said, �Bhai Gurmej Singh Ragi has not only served the panth, but also transcribed Gurbani into script to be read by blind persons. Renowned Sikh historian Dr. Kirpal Singh does valuable research on Sikh history as a project of Sikh Source Historical Granth Sampadna Project.” Gurpurwasi Bhai Amrik Singh Zakhmi maintained Rag tradition of Gurbani Kirtan his entire life.
