Bhai Iqbal Singh Bhatti’s Memorandum Reaches Sri Akal Takht Sahib

AMRITSAR SAHIB—A memorandum by Bhai Iqbal Singh Bhatti has reached Sri Akal Takht Sahib.  The memorandum was handed to members of Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwale who today presented it to the appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji.  SYF Bhindrawale has also initiated talks with members of Sant Samaj and other Jathebandis to seek their support for the on-going movement at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.

Bhai Iqbal Singh is in the 54th day of his hunger strike.  He is seeking the release of Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar on humanitarian grounds.  Prof. Bhullar is currently being held in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.  He is mentally ill and has been tortured severely by Police.  Bhai Bhatti is also demanding a fast track court for 1984 Sikh Genocide cases.  Bhai Bhatti requested help from Giani Gurbachan Singh in reaching his goals.  The translation of the memorandum and the original copy are below.

From Jantar Mantar area of New Delhi, where president of Auroredawn France (Human Right Organisation), Bhai Iqbal Singh Ji Bhatti who has started his hunger strike on 5th December in France, is on his 52nd day—but 25th at Jantar Mantar—politely writes a request to Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar that the campaign by me and my colleagues against the Indian government has reached a point from which, being a dedicated soldier of the Panth, it is difficult to turn back from now.

This is why we all request Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar to please not issue any orders or requests that cause us any difficulty. Also all Sangat and Sri Akal Takht Sahib are the most important for me.

So we request that this campaign will only end when our genuine demands are fulfilled because we have not started this march by someone else’s advice or pressure but rather from listening to our own heart. Being a Panthik soldier, we have started this protest against the cruelty of the Indian government, by which Sikhs are treated as second class citizens.

We can stop this cruelty only by uniting together. So we kindly request all Sikh congregations to please pray to God for all of us so that we can do something for the Sikh Nation, the Panth.

God willing, we pray that we be successful in this endeavour.

Mr. Bhatti, through his letter, repeated his aim that we will continue the campaign until our last breath, until our national goals are met.

A humble request by a brother and servant of the Sikh nation – Iqbal Singh.
