SGPC and Delhi Leaders Fail to Recognize Imminent Threat to Bhai Iqbal Singh Bhatti’s Life

NEW DELHI—Bhai Iqbal Singh Bhatti, who has been on hunger strike since December 5th, has failed to get any response from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Delhi Shriomani Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).  Bhai Iqbal Singh’s demands are based on humanitarian grounds which both of these organizations need to express support for.  Although Bhai Bhatti has not approached any particular organization to seek its support, we have been told that Punjab and Delhi based Sikh leaders are well aware of his struggle.

While Bhai Iqbal Singh Bhatti has remained in high spirits and positive in welcoming anyone who comes to see him, there is great resentment within the Sikh Sangat in regards to the missing SGPC and DSGMC members.

Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode, a well-recognized leader of the Sikh Community, has been in Delhi since early this week however he is yet to express any kind of support to Bhai Bhatti.  At the same time, the Takht Jathedars too have remained silent.

While the majority of Sikh leadership is missing, the Sikh Sangat of New Delhi has expressed great support to Bhai Bhatti.  Daily kirtan darbars are held at Jantar Mantar that bring together youth from various cities.

The following are the demands that are been raised by Bhai Bhatti –
