Delegation from Gurdwara Amb Sahib Meets With Giani Gurbachan Singh Regarding Release of Sikh Political Prisoners

AMRITSAR SAHIB—A delegation was sent from Gurdwara Amb Sahib to Sri Akal Takht Sahib to meet with appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.  Complete details about the six Sikhs who have not been released from prison despite having completed their sentences were presented to the Jathedar.  The delegation included Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema, Advocate Amar Singh Chachal, Bhai Kammikar Singh, Bhai Malkiat Singh Ajnala and Bhai Jujhar Singh (son of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa).

The meeting lasted for almost an hour and all details requested by the appointed Jathedar were presented to him.  The delegation appealed to the Jathedar to urgently seek the release of the Sikhs.

After the meeting, Giani Gurbachan Singh told the press that he has received all the information which will be forwarded to the SGPC for further action.  The SGPC will initiate talks with the Punjab Government.

SGPC Responsibility

Sarabjit Singh Ghumman of Dal Khalsa released a statement saying that the Sikh community got involved in the political struggle only after the Dharam Yudh Morcha was initiated by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.  He said all political arrests from 1982 onwards are because of the SGPC and hence the body should work to seek the release of these prisoners.
