Badal Will Try to End Bhai Gurbaksh Singh’s Hunger Strike Before Next Week

MOHALI, Punjab—While Sikh Sangat is gearing up peaceful protests and vigils worldwide in support of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh, we have learned from trusted sources that police may once again enter Gurdwara Amb Sahib before December 9 to put the hunger strike campaign to an end.  The campaign begun by Bhai Gurbaksh Singh has entered its 24th day and he has been joined by Bhai Damandeep Singh from Ludhiana and three other Gursikhs from Sri Nagar who have also announced that they will fast until death or the release of Sikhs from jails.

Over thirty countries are expected to take part in the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit next week from Dec. 9 to 10 taking place in Mohali.  While this Summit will provide Punjab’s Akali Government a chance to bring investors to Punjab, it also provides Sikh leaders an opportunity to take advantage of the summit by continuing to raise awareness of the human rights abuses in Punjab.  This creates a big concern that the Akalis may do anything to halt the movement.

Sukhbir Badal has openly announced that he is not concerned at all about the well-being of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh as the latter did not start his campaign by consulting the government or the Badals.  Government appointed Jathedars too have denounced the hunger strike by stating erroneously that hunger strikes are contrary to Gurmat.

Although Bhai Gurbaksh Singh has been arrested, his campaign is gaining momentum every day.  Giani Amrik Singh Chandigarh asked Sikh Sangat to provide full support to the campaign during his recent Manji Hall katha from PTC Punjab.  Katha by Bhai Amrik Singh has benefited the movement a lot.  Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale has also provided immense support and was he was with Bhai Damandeep Singh yesterday until 11 PM.

Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh has not visited because he was undergoing medical treatment.  He has already expressed full support and the sangat at Gurdwara Amb Sahib are expecting him to visit in the coming days.  Giani Harnaam Singh Dhumma, Chairman of Sant Samaj, has not visited or provided any support in anyway.  So far Giani Pinderpal Singh has also not issued any statement.
