Malaysian Edits Painting of Guru Gobind Singh Ji for Facebook

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—After attempts by Rashtriya Sikh Sangat Mohali to mimic the appearance of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, another person from Kedah, Malaysia has now sparked a controversy by morphing his face onto a depiction of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

It should be noted that only five years ago, the Sacha Sauda cult leader Gurmit Ram Rahim had sparked a similar controversy when he dressed in attire similar to those adorned by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.  Such cases of blasphemy are on the rise and have continued to hurt Sikh sentiments.

Not much is known about the intentions of this person from Malaysia named Sarbjit Singh Galee (id: jeet.galee).  The morphed picture includes the face of Galee with trimmed beard.  The picture has sparked rage by Facebook users.  No statement has yet been made by Galee, however him and his wife have made their profiles private.

Dal Khalsa spokesperson Bhai Sarbjit Singh Ghuman expressed grief over the picture and alleged that the SGPC failed to take prompt action while media outlets like Punjab Spectrum and Babu Shahi were quick to publicize the news.  He said the Sikh Nation would deal with this problem one day, even though the alleged person is from Malaysia.

  1. First doing same as like our guru ji did, like kill your child for your Sikh religion, then fight for your turban, then killed your family for your religion, you can do it, like our guru gobind Singh Ji , then you can wear gods cloths, this is totally stupid man.

  2. Let me start by stating that the actions of Gurmit Ram Rahim and Sarbjit Galee are wrong. But what are we Sikhs doing? We all know that by using photos to depict the Guru, we are absolutely against the teachings of the very Guru whose photo we are trying to make. Photos are nothing but two dimensional idols – no different than idol worship (which to me is idle worship). The only embodiment of The Guru is the knowledge, the teachings (Shabad). If as Sikhs, we wish to bring a depiction of The Guru in our homes, then let us do that by applying the teachings of The Guru in our lives and daily behaviour.

Look around your homes: shouldn’t you get rid of all the photos in your home, work place and businesses? At least that is what The Guru asks us to do.

Think: If we would not have started down the wrong path of idol & photos, this wouldn’t be happening – or at least would be a meaningless act on part of Galee or anyone else for that matter.
