giani_gurbachan_singh_jathedarAMRITSAR SAHIB—Akal Takht’s appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has summoned Paramjit Sarna to appear at Akal Takht Sahib before 5 Singh Sahibs on June 17. Congress and RSS supporter, former President of DSGMC had opposed and filed a petition in Delhi High Court against the construction of the 1984 Genocide Memorial in Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib.

Issuing a statement, Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji said that Paramjit Sarna should have supported the cause which is a just reminder of inhuman torture and brutality done to thousands of innocent Sikhs, instead without giving it much thought he has filed a petition in High Court opposing the memorial.

In other matters, when asked about the denial of permission to Sikh jathas  to pay obeisance  at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore, the Jathedar expressed his regret and said that he would look into the matter soon and contact  Sardar Sham Singh (Head of Pakistan Gurdwara Committee) on the issue.

He said that 98 percent of the Sikh population has been following the amended Nanakshahi Calendar. But with the recent discrepancy between SGPC and Pakistan Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee regarding the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev ji, the Singh Sahibs would have to review the case in the meeting to be held on June 17.

In addition they would also look into the matter of starting Akhand Path Sahib Ceremonies during evening hours in contrary to the morning hours. It is not against Sikh maryada but the tradition of starting Akhand Path in the morning hours should be maintained according to him.

He also urged the members of the Delhi Committee to maintain the code and conduct of Sikhi in their families by motivating their children to become sabat soorat (full Sikhs inside and out) and propagate their religion.

The 5 Singh Sahibs will discuss many other important religious matters  in the  meeting on June 17 to be held at Akal Takht Sahib.
