Australian Punjabi in Serious Condition After Being Attacked by Ruthless Driver

MELBOURNE, Australia—Shannon Marchant, 21, is accused of driving his car into Amandeep Singh as he walked along the footpath of a Noble Park street on Tuesday.

Mr Singh, 27, was allegedly dragged 50 metres by Marchant’s vehicle before being thrown onto the roadway.

Marchant appeared briefly in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday on 13 charges including attempted murder, reckless conduct endangering life and intentionally causing serious injury.

Prosecutor Luke Excel told the court there was no CCTV footage of the incident, but footage of the “surrounding circumstances” will be used in the prosecution case.

The court heard it was Marchant’s first time in custody and that he had injuries and medication needs.

Marchant, of Meadow Heights, made no application for bail and will reappear for a committal mention hearing on August 14.

Mr Singh was taken to The Alfred hospital, where he had surgery and remains in a serious condition.
